Local 108 comes out to support community-based organization Partners in A.C.T.S

August 31, 2012

Partners in ACTS at Franklin – St. John’s will host the 7th Annual Back to School Community Mart and Festival on Saturday, September 8th at 3:00 PM. The event will be held at FSJ United Methodist Church, 142 Maple Ave. (on the corner of Keer Ave.), Newark, NJ 07112. Nearly 250 children and their families from throughout the City of Newark have pre-registered to participate.

This section of Maple Avenue has been the site of multiple shootings and murders over the past several years. In response, what began as simply a forum to assist families in need to obtain the essential “tools for school” has grown into a forum that seeks to empower parents and children to cope with the growing incidents of bullying and peer pressure through non-violent conflict resolution techniques.

In addition to critical information and resources, each child/family will receive a book bag with school supplies, nu-tritious breakfast foods, personal hygiene and grooming products and sneakers. Partners in ACTS, a non-profit faith and community based organization receives no government funding, but instead relies primarily on the sacrificial giving of our members.
